Publications

Manuscript in Revision
Present
T. Fara and M. Peszynska: "Nonlinear bioheat model for dynamics of hypothermia and frostbite. I. Modeling aspects." Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering
This paper describes a coupled PDE/ODE system modeling, respectively, temperature in the hands/feet and the body core during exposure to extreme cold. Coupling through nonlinear energy exchange terms is used to model the body's protective mechanisms against hypothermia. The energy exchange term in the bioheat PDE is illustrated through numerical simulations on both the macro- and microscale. This paper describes the model and presents simulation results.
